Class Schedule

Ten or twelve (depending on the semester) weekly, 45-minute classes include songs, rhythmic rhymes, movement, and instrument play. These activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences--developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers--regardless of their own musical ability. Two CDs and a songbook are included.

Below is our schedule for the upcoming fall semester:

Mixed-Ages

For children newborn through 4 years.

This is the essential Music Together® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age four, and through all nine song collections. Child development researchers recommend mixed-age groupings because they foster natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own developmental level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, and exploring musical instruments. The class provides a variety of adult-child activities that are fun and relaxed, offering new ways to play musically at home, or anywhere. The whole family is welcome to join in this important family music experience and any caregiver—parent, grandparent, nanny—can bring the child(ren) to class.

Babies Class

For infants newborn to 8 months, as an introduction to Music Together.

Every child's development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together offers two options for babies ages eight months and younger. Babies are always welcome to attend a mixed-age class, whether registered on their own or attending free with an older brother or sister. Parents with infants may also register for the special Babies Class which is offered as a one-semester introduction to Music Together, after which babies will attend mixed-age classes.

The Babies class is structured similarly to a mixed-age class. In both classes your teacher will lead you through a variety of activities, facilitating fun and creative ways for you to interact musically with your baby. The main difference lies in parent education. Because the infants are non-mobile, there is a calmer energy in this class which allows the teacher more opportunities to explain the ‘whys’ behind the ‘whats’ and to point out emerging musical behaviours.

Supportive Family Class

These classes are designed for families who have one or more children with special needs. The welcoming, community-based experience for the whole family continues, just as with all of our class offerings. Supportive family classes are smaller and some modification can take place, in response to the children and families present. Supportive family classes are taught by a teacher qualified in both Music Together teaching and with a specific qualification in teaching special needs.

Summer Classes, mixed-age

A shortened summer semester featuring a compilation of songs from the nine collection library. The mixed-age format allows families to attend together with all of their children, newborn though 4 years.

Rhythm Kids II

Rhythm Kids Level 2 offers children kindergarten through second grade the opportunity to develop their music skills in a class that is lively, fun, and developmentally appropriate. A very special focus of the program is learning hand drumming, in addition to singing and other movement skills. Music-reading readiness activities are also included. Adults are welcome to drop-off, or stay and play.
